Description
Cayenne pepper is a hot chili in the Capsicum family which has a long reputation as a medicine.
Some of the most well-known cayenne pepper benefits include its ability to aid digestion, relieve migraines, prevent blood clots, promote detoxification, relieve pain, support weight loss and boost metabolism. Cayenne is also excellent for the heart.
Hearth Health: Cayenne peppers can protect heart health in several ways. There’s evidence that “capsaicin” (the medicinal compound found in chili peppers) can protect the body against inflammation, which plays a role in many different diseases, including heart disease.
Cayenne is said to help the circulatory system by controlling blood flow, and strengthening the heart, arteries, capillaries, and nerves. Peppers with capsaicin have been shown to reduce cholesterol and triglycerides, and help keep cells from sticking together and forming blood clots.
Cayenne peppers may help prevent myocardial infarction (heart attacks) by promoting blood flowing effectively through the circulatory system. It has a mild blood-thinning action, which may be helpful in people with cholesterol problems.
In emergency situations such as a heart attack, Cayenne peppers have been used to “buy time” until paramedics arrive. Cayenne pepper taken orally, can thin blood and restore circulation during a heart attack by causing vasodilation, making it a potential emergency intervention.
Weight loss: Capsaicin increases the amount of heat that your body produces, giving a slight boost to your metabolism and causing you to burn slightly more calories. It’s also somewhat effective in reducing hunger, which might help you eat less throughout the day.
Pain: Cayenne pepper can help ease pain by improving blood flow and stimulating circulation. It also contains the natural healing compound, capsaicin which reduces the amount of substance P, a chemical that sends pain signals to the brain. Reduction or removal of this chemical stops pain signals from reaching the brain and relieves pain.
Cayenne pepper is also effective when used topically and studies show that it can relieve pain from rheumatoid arthritis, joint pain from fibromyalgia, migraines, diabetic neuropathy in the legs and feet, injuries to the lower back, osteoarthritis and more.

Safety Considerations
Excessive amounts of cayenne pepper can irritate the inner lining of the stomach causing gastritis and even stomach ulcers. Therefore, people with ulcers are advised to limit consumption. Cayenne may interfere with blood-thinning medicines such as warfarin, aspirin, naproxen, or ibuprofen. For this reason, doctors usually recommend their patients to stop taking cayenne pepper in any form at least two weeks before and two weeks after the surgery.
Never use cayenne pepper in place of real medical attention during heart attack. If you suspect you are in cardiac arrest, call for help immediately.
