Description
American pokeweed (Phytolacca americana) is a well known plant that grows throughout North America. Considered a weed, it is hated by many for its intruding nature.
The entire plant is considered toxic and contains oxalic acid and a saponin called phytolaccotoxin. However, despite its toxicity, pokeweed has been used as a food and sacred medicine by the indigenous communities for centuries.
When prepared and taken properly, pokeweed is known to be an extremely effective and powerful medicine.
Pokeweed is said to help the following conditions
• sore throat
