Description
Essiac is an herbal formula that was developed by Canadian nurse Rene Caisse in the 1920’s and promoted as an alternative cancer treatment. She had learned this remedy from one of her patients who had been miraculously cured of cancer.
According to Caisse, the patient attributed her recovery to a recipe she had received from an Ojibwa medicine man. The patient then shared the formula with Caisse, who began experimenting with it and eventually named it “Essiac” (her last name spelled backward).
