Foraging is the act of collecting wild plants to eat, and it is nothing new to mankind. In fact, homosapiens have been foraging far longer then we've been hunting or eating meat. Mother Earth has always provided an abundance of edible plants, root, berries, nuts and seeds.
Today foraging has made a comeback as more and more people gain interest in health, survival and nature in general. This is an excellent way to enjoy nature, learn your local environment and eat straight from the Earth. Local foraging for food and wild medicine is certainly a rewarding experience for people of all ages. Unfortunately with the uprise in intrest we have started to see a devastating impact on native plant species from over harvesting, ginseng and certain mushrooms especially.
It is important to have safe respectful foraging practices that not only protect you but also the environment from which your harvesting.
HealthPrimitive offers foraging workshops which cover topics such as edible and non-edible plants, identification, harvesting & overharvesting and proper preparation if necessary. Click link to view our upcoming foraging classes
Many people may not realize that right outside their front door lies an abundance of medicinal plants, most of which do amazing things. Long before the invention of what we know as modern medicine the healing credit was given to the plants. They became the first healers in their own right and opened the path for what we think of medicine today.
Plants such as dandelion and burdock are very common plants yet have powerful medicinal values. So many everyday aliments can be treated with using these common weeds.
We believe all people should have access to the knowledge of what these amazing plants can offer. For our wild medicine workshops schedules click here
